Bridling the Tongue: The Lost Art of ‘Shutting-up’

When you have nothing good to say -keep your mouth shut! Silence is always a better alternative. Better than kind words, with well meaning intentions, said at the wrong time. Or harsh words that may further cause pains, which are by the way, hard to heal.

According to an ancient proverb: It is a lot easier to bridle a horse than a man's tongue. Alas! How true! Well for one, history can speak for itself, harsh words prompted the world war II and wreaked havoc to the world and almost the annihilation of the Jews.

Words kill, yet it can also bring life. Words wound, yet it can also heal. Words can make one grieve, yet it can also cheer a downcast soul. And more. Silence, can't bring and give neither of those. But silence, sometimes is the best stance when words fall inappropriate. Silence breaks the emotions, so that it can give enough time for one to contemplate his or her words and actions.
